Happy Monday! 7/8/2024

I hope everyone enjoyed the long holiday weekend! My family and I had a great time on the 4th. We live in Sheboygan, so we take part in all the great festivities the city offers. We went to the parade where Jacob got 1lb 1.7oz of candy (yes, we weighed it), suffered through a few rain drops on the beach in the afternoon, but stayed for the fireworks, which were awesome! The rest of the weekend was a lot of running, family gatherings, and a few backyard sparklers and fountains. I apparently had too much fun, though. I’m out sick today with some kind of stomach bug. Even though I'm not feeling great, I couldn’t let you go a Monday without an email!
One reason I couldn’t let this email go today is because our 12th Annual Golf Scramble and Walk Fundraiser is less than 2 weeks away! We are still looking for golfers to join us for a fun, casual game on the front 9 at Quit Qui Oc, and walkers to join us for a stroll through Elkhart Lake with a scavenger hunt. If you are interested, you can visit www.generationsic.org and register right from the home page. If you’d rather sign up in person, just stop in the office. The more, the merrier!
Besides the Golf Scramble, we have a ton of other great events coming up, including another Line Dancing Class with Sydney! Here’s what we have for you…

Monday, July 8, 11:00am – Veterans’ Chat All veterans are welcome to join us for lunch and conversation. The special of the day will be BBQ Pork on a bun for a suggested donation of $6. You do not need to be a member at Generations to join.
Tuesday, July 9, 1:00pm – History on the Move This month, Katie from the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center is taking a break. Instead, we will hear from Dan Buckman. Dan will be discussing the Lyndon Baptist Church and the Lyndon Cemetery. We hope to see you there!
Tuesday, July 9, 5:00pm – Embrace Care Summer Series: Medical Advocacy Join Mary from Embrace for the next session of the Aging Parents Educational Series. This month, she will be covering medical advocacy. Dealing with medical professionals takes knowledge that a lot of us don’t have. Learn what you need to know not only to advocate for your parents, but for yourself, too.
Thursday, July 11, 10:00am – 12:00pm – Slice of Service Volunteer Day We heard quite a bit of feedback on June’s Slice of Service day, so we are making some adjustments for this month. First, the window when to volunteer is much shorter. Then, we moved it to earlier in the day. Lastly, instead of pizza, we are going to have a lighter, healthier lunch option. But with all these changes, the goal remains the same, to help keep the Generations gardens and grounds looking their best. Thank you to everyone who came out last month, and thank you in advance to all of you who will be joining us this time. If you do join, please give us your feedback. Who knows, the August event may have more changes still.
Thursday, July 11, 11:00am – Fireside Chat with Greg If you’ve been to one of his Fireside Chats before, you know that Greg is a wealth of information on Generations. He is open to discuss any aspect of Generations as openly as he can. These are great for new members who want to learn more about us and for long-time members who are curious about the finer points of running the organization. All are welcome to join.
Thursday, July 11, 11:00am – Golf Mobility Workshop With our 12th Annual Golf Outing just a couple of weeks away, Emily decided it is the perfect time to do a Golf Mobility class. Join Emily to work on your swing, strength, and mobility so you can get the most out of your golf game. After class, sign up for the Golf Outing and show off your new moves!
Friday, July 12, 10:00am – Dog Club Pool Party It’s that time of year again! Join the Generations Dog Club on the patio for a summer pool party with the pups. There will be wading pools, summer treats, and we may even dust off the old Puppy Kissing Booth! All dogs (and people) are welcome to join, but please remember, all dogs must be leashed during the party.
Friday, July 12, 10:00am – Memories in the Making Generations will be hosting this month’s Memories in the Making meeting. This program, a signature program from the Alzheimer’s Association, is designed to help people with Alzheimer’s or other memory affecting disorders express themselves through art. These are instructor-led classes and all the material are provided. If you would like to join, please try to let us know ahead of time so we can have enough supplies for everyone.
Saturday, July 13 – Mill Street Days Join us at our booth at Mill Street Days! We will have a lot of informational pieces to share along with some fun, family-friendly activities. Stop by just to say hi, or join us to help share the word on what Generations is all about. If you want to join us as an ambassador, you can volunteer for a time slot here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904084FAEAC2CA2F94-50176884-mill
Tuesday, July 16, 10:30am – Bouquet Arrangement Class with Serendipity Cut Flowers Join us for a fun morning of bouquet arranging! Rebecca, a flower farmer with Serendipity Cut Flowers, will be here with all the flowers, all the supplies, and all the instruction you will need to make your own bouquet. The best part is, you get to keep your creation! Due to the amount of prep work and supplies needed, you will need to RSVP ahead of time. Please reply to this email, give us a call, or pop in the office if you want to sign up.
Tuesday, July 16 – Summer Concert Series: Family Night Join us for round 2 of the Summer Concert Series! The July concert is always our favorite because it’s also Family Night. We will have a ton of activities for kids and families before and during the concert, including visiting the Balloon Lady, a Christmas in July fishing game run by Santa, giant blocks and yard games, and more. The festivities begin at 5:00pm (including the Pic A Deli Brat Fry) and the music by Brent Bel and the Boys starts at 6:00pm. As always, the concert is free and open to the public, but we will be collecting donations for Growing Generations. They are asking for drawing paper and art supplies. See you on the patio!
Wednesday, July 17 – Bring A Friend Day It’s that time again! Bring friends, family, neighbors, coworkers…anyone and everyone is welcome to join us for the day to learn what Generations is all about.
Wednesday, July 17 – 12th Annual Golf Scramble and Walk Fundraiser There is still time to sign up for this fundraising event. If you don’t have a team of 4 for golf, don’t worry! We have others who are singles or doubles we can pair you with. And if golf isn’t your thing, you can join the scavenger hunt walk through Elkhart Lake. Either way, it will be a fun, casual day in Elkhart. If you have any questions, just let us know!
Thursday, July 18, 12:00pm – Line Dancing with Sydney We all had so much fun the first time, Sydney decided to do it again! Join her for another fun Line Dancing class! Cowboy boots not required, but definitely recommended!
Thursday, July 18, 5:00pm – Supper Club @ The Hamburger Haus This month, Supper Club is going to be much more casual than normal. We will be meeting at the Hamburger Haus in Campbellsport. There is no need to sign up ahead of time for this one. Just walk up to the window, place your order, and grab a picnic table. It’ll be a great summer evening outing.

As a final note today, I wanted to talk about the power sweeper Kendall had chained out by the parking lot entrance. Over the long weekend, someone stole it from our property. Kendall did inform the police and they are investigating it, but if you have any information or if you happened to see anything, please let us or the police know. Though we know that chances are slim, we would like to see it returned as it is a pretty expensive piece of equipment.
That’s it for today. Enjoy the rest of your week and talk to you again next Monday!
