Generations

If you’re at Generations today, you will notice that I’m not here! That’s because I am currently about 8 hours south in Illinois getting ready to see the total solar eclipse. My husband was bound and determined to get our little family in to the path of totality for this ‘once in a lifetime experience’ (I’ve heard that phrase from him a lot regarding this trip!!). So, the three of us are off on an adventure. No worries, though. We are coming home tonight yet and I’ll be back tomorrow. I’m sure it will be an incredible experience, so long as the clouds stay away!

Anyway, I’ve got a few non-sun related updates for you. First, I wanted to let you know about another new fitness class here at Generations. You may have heard about Sydney’s Dance Fusion class. It has been insanely popular from day one and everyone has been loving it. Well, Sydney has added another dance class to the mix. Now you can join Chair Dance, a class designed to give you all the fun and exercise of a dance class while you can remain seated. This 30-minute class meets every Monday at noon. Give us a call if you’re interested in joining.

And since we’re on the topic of fitness, I also want to let you know that today’s Chair Yoga is going to be a video. Ellen is also off today so we’ll be starting the pre-recorded Chair Yoga class at 1:30pm.

Here’s everything else we have coming up…

By now you’ve probably realized that I’ve changed the system I use to send out the Monday Email. There are several reasons why I’ve made this change. First of all, I hope you like it! Second of all, don’t panic if the images are not loading like you are used to. This system is a bit more advanced, but that also means it’s a larger file type. Some email boxes may not load everything, trying to save you space. If you are looking at this email and upset that you can’t see any of the flyers, have no fear! I can help! Just right click on an empty box where a flyer should be and click ‘Download Pictures.’ It may take a second, but you should be able to see everything after you do that. Side note, you can do the same thing when I send out the Newsletter once a month to see the pictures in those emails, too. If you have questions on what I’m talking about or how to do it, just ask! I’ll be happy to help.

Thanks for making it to the end! Have a great week!

It was such a beautiful weekend, I hope you were able to get out an enjoy it! I took my mom to Green Bay for a Mother’s Day outing, and it hit 80 degrees on my car thermometer. I couldn’t believe it! I know I speak for a lot of you when I say, welcome back warmth!! I have a few of quick notes for you this morning, and then we’ll get into the upcoming events. First, I want to take a minute and talk about our front desk receptionists in the Gathering Room. We’ve all seen Diane up there, and we also have Linda and Sue that help out a couple days a week in the morning. If you see one of those lovely ladies at the desk, they can help you! You may not know this, but the can sign you up for events, answer questions on your membership, help you navigate your insurance (if you have it for membership) and so much more. I know these ladies have been working up there for a while now, but it never hurts to remind everyone they’re there now and again. If you have any questions on what their roles are or how they can help you, just ask! Also, we have a trip to announce! We will be going to the Fireside Theatre on Thursday, July 25 th to see Matilda. The cost is $126 per person and includes transportation, dinner, and a show. I’m sorry I’m a little late getting this email out today. It’s been a crazy morning! On Saturday, we hosted Random Lake High School’s Prom. It was a great night (Joa has pictures if anyone wants to see) and the kids had a great time. But there was a lot of rearranging to do this morning. So, I write to you a little sweaty, having gotten my morning work out in! Anyway, we are really excited around here because tomorrow is our 2 nd ever Aging with Style Senior Expo! We had a great turn out last year and hope to have just as good, or better, this year. There are more details below, but this is a great opportunity to meet with experts in our area on a variety of topics and resources for the Senior community. It’s supposed to be pretty rainy tomorrow, so it will be the perfect day to stay inside and have fun with us! Also, I know it’s early, but it is not too early to start thinking about the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Please consider joining Generations’ Team! While you are welcome to walk with us, you can join our team without walking. We would love to beat our number of team members from last year! The Walk to End Alzheimer's is a nation-wide event held annually in more than 600 communities. It is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. The event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease. Typically, the walk is between one to three miles. The Alzheimer's Association hosts the event each year to bring awareness, care, and support for research of this disease. If you are interested in joining our team, or want more information, please reach out to Emily at enelson@generationsic.org or (920) 892-4858 ext 302. So far, we have three people interested, but would like to see a few more. If you are interested please let me know. And lastly today, I want to thank all of you for helping to make the new Check-In System roll-out a success! There were a couple glitches the first day, which was to be expected, but for the most part, you all did great! I appreciate you all being flexible, open to learning a new system, and positive and upbeat about the experience. Now we just need to all keep up on signing in every time we visit. So, thank you all for helping make this transition as smooth as possible. Alright, I’m done now. I hope you all have a great week and we’ll talk again next Monday. Meghann

Can you believe in just two days, it’s going to be May? Hopefully we’ll be able to leave some of this rain behind and warm weather will follow. All this rain has been doing something, though. It’s so nice seeing the green fuzzies on the trees as everything starts to wake up for the year! Speaking of spring, warm weather, and green sprouts, we still have some open space in our raised garden beds. I know it’s still a bit early to get most things in the ground, but if you want to claim a space, you can wait a while before planting. If you are interested in one of these raised garden bed plots, please contact Dick Fellenz at (920) 893-0071. Also, join me in wishing Erika the best of luck today. She is being induced and will be meeting her new little boy any time now. We are so happy for her and can’t wait to meet the new addition! Good luck, Erika! With Erika being out for a while, now, we have some announcements about classes in May. For the entire month of May, Chair Yoga (Monday/Wednesday at 1:30pm) and the 9:30am Arthritis classes will be videos. This also means that the live virtual classes for both of these will be unavailable. We know the videos can be challenging sometimes, but Emily and I are working on a way to make them more dependable for everyone. But remember: this is temporary. Once Erika is back, we’ll be back to regular, in-person classes. Lastly, before getting into the upcoming events, I want to let you all know to mark the calendar for Saturday, May 18 th . You may have heard that Joann Van Horn Wieland passed away earlier this year. It was devastating for her family and the community as she was such a positive force for good in the world. Joann’s husband believes that Joann would have loved to have her Celebration of Life at Generations, so that’s what we are going to do. Joann’s Celebration of Life will be held at Generations on Saturday, May 18 th , starting at 1:30pm. I have a couple more notes for you, but for now, let's take a look at what's coming up... ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, April 30 th , 1:00pm – Great Marriages Information Session We’ve all seen the clever billboards around the county, but what exactly does the Great Marriages organization do? You are required to have a Park Sticker on your vehicle. Day passes can be purchased online or at the park when you arrive. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ I have just a couple more notes for you today. First, don’t forget that the new Check-In system goes into effect Wednesday, May 1 st . You will no longer need to pre-register for on-going activities, like fitness classes, card games, and so on. You will still need to RSVP when a specific activity requires it, like when we need an RSVP number for a venue or a guest speaker wants a number to prepare. If you need to RSVP ahead of time, we will always tell you. Otherwise, please make sure you are visiting one of the check-in computers at either entrance and picking the activity you are here for every time you visit. If you have questions or weren’t able to join the tutorial last Friday, I have extra hand-outs explaining the process. Either stop in the office to pick up a copy or click here to download one. Lastly, with this new format, I don’t have a way to ‘attach’ the new month’s Senior Meal calendar like we’re used to. However, click here and you'll be able to view the May calendar. In the future, I will include the Senior Meal calendar in this final section of the Monday Email. That’s it for today. It’s supposed to be a beautiful week, so get out and enjoy! Talk to you next week. Meghann

I have a lot of big announcement for you this morning, so we are going to have to dive right in. First, I want to let you all know that our Healthy Living Coordinator, Erika, starts her maternity leave today! We wish her and her family the very best as they welcome their new baby! While we anxiously await Erika’s return (and pictures of her little bundle!!), we will show more videos than usual for some of our fitness classes. Please keep in mind, this is only temporary. Erika will be back before you know it. In the meantime, Emily and Sydney will be doing everything they can to accommodate all the classes they can, but we know that some classes will be impacted by this change more than others. We apologize for any inconveniences and ask that we all exercise just a little patience for the next month or so. For the next big announcement, I want to start by thanking Kohler Company. Due to a very generous grant from Kohler Co., we are able to launch a new check-in system on May 1 st ! There are several perks that come along with this new system: No more pre-registering for every activity. With a few exceptions, you will be able to register during the check-in process on your way to your activity. The new computers are fast and responsive. No more waiting around for it to register that you swiped your card! Find out what room your activity is taking place in right on the check-in screen. For those of you who were with Generations before COVID, you may be comforted to know that we are technically just going back to how our check-in process worked pre-2020. For those of you who weren’t here then, or maybe you don’t quite remember how it used to work, I will be holding a tutorial session THIS FRIDAY at 2:00pm. I will walk you through the process, have it displayed on a TV to ensure everyone can see, and answer any questions you may have about the process, what the exceptions are, and so on. I encourage anyone who is interested in seeing a test-run of the system to join. I’m really excited to show it off and I hope you are just as excited to see it in action. There may be a few growing pains, but together we will get everyone up and running in no time. OK, I still have some other points to touch on, but let’s take a break and look at upcoming events. Remember, after May 1 st , you will not need to pre-register for any of these activities unless it specifically says otherwise. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Monday, April 22 nd , 10:00am – Earth Day Clean Up Celebrate Earth Day at Generations! We’ll be spending an hour picking up trash and debris around our property. Show the Earth some love and make a difference with us! All who are interested should meet on the patio at 10am. Friday, April 26 th , 2:00pm – Check-In System Tutorial As I mentioned above, anyone and everyone who is interested in seeing our new Check-In system in action is welcome to join. Would you like to volunteer to sing a specific song? Would anyone like to share a joke with the audience? Or would anyone like to request a Polka or a Waltz song to dance to? Lastly, Emily asked me to share with you that she will be at a Parkinson’s Disease conference this coming Tuesday, April 23 rd . This means we will have videos for both Arthritis Classes (9:30am and 11am) and for our Cardio Fit (7:30am). Walk Fit, Dance, and Tai Chi will not be affected. That should do it for today. Thanks for hanging in there with me. Have a great week, enjoy the spring weather while it lasts, and talk to you again next Monday! Meghann

I hope everyone got to get out an enjoy the beautiful weather we had this weekend! My family thoroughly enjoyed it, but probably the happiest creatures in our house were the cats. We actually opened the windows yesterday and when I tell you my cats were sparky, that is a huge understatement. A little bit of fresh air is all it takes to turn them into wild jungle cats! It was good for them, though, and us, and it was just so nice to be able to turn the heat off and feel the breeze…for a little while anyway! On to business! I have some very exciting news for you this morning. We are very happy to announce that individual Tech Talks are back! Spencer, who runs our monthly Tech Talk class, has decided to come every Tuesday to help out. Appointments are available now, so please give us a call and we can get you on the list. Just a heads up, he is only meeting with one person per week, so there will probably be a bit of a wait to get in, but you are always welcome to attend the class on the last Tuesday of every month. Also, in case you hadn’t heard, the Pickleball nets are finally up! Hopefully some got to enjoy the courts this weekend. Welcome back after a long holiday weekend. It was kind of a gloomy weekend, but there were plenty of festivities to keep everything bright. My family had a lot of stops yesterday, each with an egg hunt and basket. It was so much fun getting to watch him and all his cousins running around looking for those eggs. It was even more fun to watch the older kids helping the younger kids, the kids sharing and trading their treats, and just generally being very respectful young people. Don’t get me wrong, there was plenty of screaming and a few tufts broke out, but when you have 4 boys under 10 it’s fine as long as no one starts bleeding! Anyway, I hope you had a nice Holiday as well. Now that we’re back at it, I’ve got a couple of things for you. First, I have an announcement regarding Open Air Club’s 2024 season. We have decided that Generations will not be hosting any of the Open Air Club outings this year. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be outings! Uptown Social has graciously opened their Open Air Club to Generations members. If you joined this club in the past and want to find out more about this season’s outings, please contact Audrey Sager. You can reach her at (920) 918-8769. Also, I wanted to mention one more time that we are looking for people who are be interested in starting a 500 Rummy card playing group at Generations. If enough people are interested, we will look at scheduling a first meeting to discuss times, days, how often we want to meet, and so on. So, if this sounds like something you would like to join, please let me know! We are always open to new things, we just want to make sure it’s the kinds of things you want. Here’s what we have coming up. Check out April 9 th …it’s going to be a crazy day! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Tuesday, April 2 nd , 5:00pm – Common Scams & Frauds The Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection will discuss the details of common scams that target seniors, the warning signs of a scam, and what to do if you or someone you know falls victim to a scam or fraud. Helpful factsheets from The Bureau of Consumer Protection will be available. As Wisconsin’s lead agency for consumer protection, the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection, provides information and education, mediates complaints, investigates cases, and takes enforcement actions to fight fraudulent and deceptive practices that harm consumers and honest businesses. Please let us know if you plan to join. Thursday, April 4 th , 11:45am – Nutrition Talk with Dr. Dan What are probiotics, how much should you really be taking, and which ones should you consider?
