Happy (Late) Tuesday Morning!

I hope you all had a great, long holiday weekend. And found a way to stay cool! It was a scorcher, for sure! Unfortunately, it was just too hot for my family, so we didn’t make it to the Fair this year. Jacob was pretty disappointed, so we packed up the cooler and had a beach day at Lake Michigan instead. Would you believe we even went in the water? It was cold, but still felt good because it was NOT cooler by the lake on Sunday.

I’ve got a few things for you before looking at the upcoming schedule. First, there were a couple of errors in the newsletter. Well, one error, and one last-minute schedule change that came after printing. The error (which is entirely my fault) is about Open Air Club. In the newsletter, the flyer says the 15th. This is incorrect. The last Open Air Club of the year is THIS FRIDAY!! You’ll find the details below.

The second issue to note is Greg’s Fireside Chat on September 22nd. We had planned on having it at 11am, but then realized we had double booked with a Pickleball event. So, in order to be more accessible to more people, we are going to push the Chat to 10:30am instead. That way, Pickleball players don’t have to choose which gathering to attend.

OK, let’s take a look at what’s coming up…

Tuesday, September 5th, 6:30pm – Lincoln Seminar: Mary Todd Lincoln, a Troubled Life Presented by the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, the series will continue with a look at what it was like to be the First Lady during the Civil War. This, as well as all parts of the series, are free and open to the public. However, we would still like a general idea of how many people to expect! Please call the Research Center at (920) 467-4667 to reserve your seat.

Wednesday, September 6th, 3:30pm – England Trip Information Session Join Wendy from Black Sheep Travel as she explains the AMAZING trip to England she has planned for the fall of 2024. Coming to the meeting does not obligate you to anything, but we can’t guarantee it won’t make you want to book the trip either! All joking aside, if you have ever wanted to visit our friends across the pond, join this session to see how you could make that a reality.

Thursday, September 7th, 8:00am – 10:00am – Safe Harbor Volunteer Table Starting in September, Safe Harbor will have an information table set up in the Gathering Room on the first Thursday of the month. There, they will have details on what their organization does, what their needs are, and what opportunities are available for those who would like to help or volunteer. What they do is so important and we are very happy to be able to help them out.

Friday, September 8th, 9:30am – Open Air Club Join us for the last road trip of the year. This month, we’ll be going on a cheese run! We’ll stop at Hennings, La Clare, Verns, and Pine River. There will also be lunch at Sunset on the Water (cheese plate is optional). Let us know if you plan to drive along.

Friday, September 8th, 11:00am – Dog Club It’s Yappy Hour! And yes, you read that right. We will be having a little get together on the patio focused primarily on socialization for the dogs. Of course, there will be mocktails and special treats for our furry guests. We hope to see your pups (and you) there!

Tuesday, September 12th, 10:00am – Intergenerational Art Class School is back in session, the kids are in the new rooms for the year upstairs, and we’re bringing Art Class back! Join us for the first Intergenerational Art Class of the new school year. We are always looking for volunteers to sit with the kids, get a little dirty, and make some creative and beautiful art. Talk to Joa if you would be interested in volunteering.

Tuesday, September 12th, 4:00pm – Pickleball Novice Night Our Pickleball group is growing and there are a lot of new members. Some are old pros, but a lot are just getting into the sport for the first time. If that sounds like you, then you need to come to Novice Night! You’ll learn the basics, maybe do some drills, and meet some of the other players that frequent the Generations courts. Space is limited so if you are interested, let us know ASAP!

Tuesday, September 12th, 6:30pm – Lincoln Seminar: Mary Todd Lincoln, a Troubled Life Presented by the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, the series will conclude with a conversation on Lincoln’s assassination and what widowhood was like for Mary Todd. As before, this talk is FREE and open to the public. However, we would still like a general idea of how many people to expect! Please call the Research Center at (920) 467-4667 to reserve your seat.

Wednesday, September 13th, 4:00pm – Nourish your Mind & Body Generations is teaming up with Nourish Farms and Mental Health America to bring you this unique look at how food and fitness interact with your mental health. You can sign up with us in the office, or you can sign up online through our website. Visit www.generationsic.org and look for the flyer under the ‘Sign Up Today’ section.

Thursday, September 14th, 4:30pm – ADRC Bingo Night It’s back!! The ADRC is hosting Bingo Night again! Join them for some games of bingo, a nice dinner, and some social time with new friends. Please call the ADRC or talk to Susie on Wednesday or Friday if you want to sign up.

Friday, September 15th, 1:30pm – Movie Matinee: Everything Everywhere All At Once Movies are back!! We’re kicking off Movie Matinee Season with last year’s Academy Award Winner for Best Picture. Here’s the synopsis: When an interdimensional rupture unravels reality, an unlikely hero must channel her newfound powers to fight bizarre and bewildering dangers from the multiverse as the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Please call, email, or stop in the office to sign up.

And now it’s time for the obligatory ‘one last thing.’ Football season is upon us and we want to dive in head first! This coming Friday, September 8th, we invite you to join the staff and wear your favorite football jersey. Don’t have a jersey? Any football related attire will do. Just as long as there’s no purple or Viking horns <shutters in Green and Gold>. Alright, alright, Vikings gear CAN be worn, but there will be no guarantees you won’t get picked on…just a little
