Good Morning & Happy October!

Good news! I found a costume for Jacob and he approved, so we are just about set for Halloween. Thank goodness for Amazon because this momma has no sewing skills or the patience to figure it out. If the boy had to rely on me for a hand-made costume, he’d probably end up as a sack of potatoes! Or a ghost under a white bed sheet. Either way, Amazon is a wonderful thing.

I don’t have a ton for you today, but there are a couple of pieces of information I want to share with you. First, I want to let you know about a scam that was brought to my attention by our Maintenance Supervisor, Kendall. Apparently, people are getting calls from people claiming to be from Spectrum, offering them 50% off their bill. Of course, you have to give them all kinds of private information to qualify for the discount. This is a scam. If you get a call like this, please hang up. As a general rule of thumb, if someone calls you and asks for information, it’s a scam. Legitimate callers should already have that information and shouldn’t need you to give it to them. If you ever aren’t sure, hang up and call the appropriate 1-800 number of whatever company you’re dealing with, and talk to a representative. Make sure you call the phone number off a billing statement, though, not the number the scammers called you from.

I also want to share a link with you. The link will take you to Mental Health America’s Online Mental Health tests. There, you can screen yourself for depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more. There are even screens designed for youth as well. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please check this out: https://screening.mhanational.org/screening-tools/

Here’s what’s coming up in the next couple of weeks…

Thursday, October 5th, 5:00pm – Kids Fitness & Stretch Emily is running a 6-week Fitness & Stretch class for kids aged 7 – 12 years old. This will be a fun-focused exercise class for the littles. It will be $10 per class, but if someone signs up for all 6 weeks, they will get a $10 discount. You can sign up through email, by giving us a call, or by visiting our website. Please contact Emily if you have any questions.

Friday, October 6th, 1:30pm – Movie Matinee: Come Out Fighting (2023) Based on true events, Come Out Fighting is set during WWII as the American Army have raced their way through the countryside on the border of France, entering Nazi Germany. Hitler, desperate to turn the tide, has deployed his secret weapon: an M-262 fighter jet. Lt. Frank Ross encounters this weapon, and an intense aerial battle ensues. Ross, forced to eject from his plane, lands behind enemy lines. If you would like to join, please call, email, or stop in. Should be a good one!

Monday, October 9th, 9:00am – Flu Shot Clinic Aurora Pharmacy will be at Generations from 9am until 1pm giving out Flu Shots. They may end up ending early if they run out of shots, so we recommend coming early. Please make sure you have your insurance information with you when you come. There will be some paperwork to fill out before your turn in the chair. Please call the number on the flyer if you have any questions.

Tuesday, October 10th, 10:00am – Intergenerational Art Class The kids from Growing Generations are coming downstairs for another fun art class! If you are interested in volunteering with the kids, please reach out to Joa.

Tuesday, October 10th, 12:00pm – Benefits of Massage & Self Care with Bev Altman Join us to learn about what massage can do for you and why self-care is so important for your wellbeing. Bev Altman is at Generations twice a week offering Chair Massage but wants to take some time to explain why she does it and why it is such a benefit to the recipient. Please make sure to call, email, or stop in to sign up.

Thursday, October 12th, 9:00am – How To Safely Interact with Dogs We will be having the kids from Growing Generations join us for some reading and learning about dogs! The kids will hear about how to safely interact with dogs and then get to try out what they learned on a few of the staff’s dogs. If you have a young one in your life that you think could benefit, bring them in! The more the merrier!

Thursday, October 12th, 5:00pm – Kids Fitness & Stretch This will be the second of Emily’s 6-week Fitness & Stretch class for kids aged 7 – 12 years old.

Friday, October 13th, 11:00am – Dog Club with Cramer Canine Consulting This month, the pups will be enjoying an interactive agility course right here at Generations! We’ll learn how to get dogs started on equipment, how to properly use it, and have a lot of fun in the process. If you and your 4-legged friend want to join, make sure to let us know!

As a final note, I wanted to tell you where our next Supper Club is going to be. This month, we are heading into Sheboygan for Umi Sushi and Steak House. I’ve heard a lot of people already talking about how they don’t want to go because they don’t like sushi, but good news! Sushi is just one part of their menu! They offer a ton of different hot foods: steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, and more! We have seats reserved at the Hibachi table so dinner will even come with a show. You won’t even know they have sushi unless you go looking for it, which I will because I am obsessed with sushi. But to each, their own. If you want to join us, please RSVP to the office by noon on October 18th.

That’s it for today. Have a great week!

Meghann
